Community Training Workshops
Our training workshops are normally one day, but can be offered as shorter ‘taster' sessions. They can be tailored to support work on specific issues (e.g. on refugees, mental health, racism or homophobia). Our regular portfolio of community workshops includes:
- Welcoming Diversity and Prejudice Reduction.
An introductory workshop which enables participants to understand how oppression operates and learn skills to intervene effectively to prevent mistreatment - Violence Prevention
- Building alliances between different groups
(e.g. between Muslims and Jews) - Being better allies - eg for white people working on racism to be better allies to Black and Asian people
Diversity leadership development programme
NCBI aims to enable individuals to take a lead in their communities, families and organisations in Welcoming Diversity and Violence Prevention. There is a comprehensive programme of training for volunteer community members:
Level 1: Workshops in Welcoming Diversity and Violence Prevention
Level 2: Single issue workshops including anti-racism, challenging homophobia, and disability awareness.
Level 3: Leadership Training courses
After attending any Level 1 or 2 workshop, volunteers can join us in community work such as Holocaust Memorial Day events, the Welcome project, and Diversity Dialogues, and they can be part of the support team for further workshops.
After completing the Level 3 leadership training, we support volunteers, for example, to lead workshops in their own community or workplace, or to develop a team around them to take leadership in their community.
On-going training and support is offered to volunteers:
- Team meetings to further develop understanding and skills
- Individual development sessions to look at your training and support needs, and to support you to take a lead in workshops and community activism
- Access to constituency retreats and training
